It's the little things

Something very exciting came in the mail this week:

In a related story, this is how I know I am incredibly old: getting a portable scoreboard for the dugout qualifies as "very exciting."

The above photo, as you might have guessed, is the latest addition to the West Raleigh 8U Blue traveling circus. One important thing we learned during our 7U summer is that our exorbitant tournament fees plus the exorbitant gate entry fees are apparently not enough to pay for a working scoreboard at virtually every location where we play (this is similar to West Raleigh, where your exorbitant participation fee plus your exorbitant raffle fee don't qualify you for a working PA system on the Minor League field, but I digress...).

Luckily, some great American inventor has already encountered this problem, and they have solved it. Assuming I remember to bring it tomorrow (chances: 60%) and assuming I can get the artist in our family to decorate the team name panels (chances: 80% if I bribe her with a cupcake), starting tomorrow we will have that scoreboard attached to the outside of our dugout for all games. It will be updated every inning as long as the scorekeeper is not distracted, which means it will probably be updated every couple of innings.

Since this adds yet another item to our collection to haul from the parking lot, if anyone knows where I can buy a reliable pack mule, please let me know. I was able to find a photo depicting what Saturday at around 7:15 a.m. will probably look like.
